Transitional Kindergarten (TK)

TK is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program, functioning to provide students with time to develop foundational skills needed for success in school within an age- and developmentally-appropriate setting.

The Early Childhood Education Professional Learning Communities Project is a multi-year professional development project that is part of the LA County Early Care and Education Workforce Consortium funded by First 5 LA and Los Angeles Universal Preschool. The multi-year professional development project provides elementary principals and TK professional development and technical assistance with the implementation of developmentally appropriate TK programs and the development of Early Childhood Education Professional Learning Communities. It offers a model for collaboration among preschool educators and TK teachers to support the articulation and alignment of preschool through TK and beyond.
