LACOE has developed a countywide shared database allowing school districts to store and exchange educational information about school-aged children in foster care. The Office is calling on all school districts in the county to sign on.

Ten districts have already joined the database known as the Los Angeles Educational Passport System. The goal is to provide uninterrupted services to foster youth who often change residences and school districts.

The database queries Aeries and other student information systems to collect foster youth data.

At this time, L.A. County is home to approximately 25,000 school-aged children in foster care.

For more information on how to join this initative, please email Rachelle Touzard, LACOE's coordinator of Foster Youth Services, at
