The newly adopted California History-Social Science Framework and the California Common Core State Standards call for teachers to strengthen literacy skills by emphasizing the use of speaking and listening skills and argumentative, informative writing in the history-social science classroom. Dr. Scott Petri, an exceptional social studies teacher leader and Past President of the Southern California Social Science Association will provide teachers with hands-on, classroom proven techniques and tools to increase the use of writing, speaking and listening to strengthen social studies instruction for all students. Participants will engage in readings, resources, and discussions with time and assistance to integrate writing, listening and speaking tasks into their history-social science instructional program.
