The Observation Protocol for Academic Literacies (OPAL) is a classroom observation tool used for reflection and refinement of teaching practices for linguistically diverse students. It has the potential to inform system and classroom practices for English Learners through its applied use in coaching, professional development and research and program evaluation projects.
During the 2015-16 and 2016-17 academic years, the Los Angeles County Office of Education, Multilingual Academic Support (MAS) Unit sponsored district and site-level OPAL Certification Training. As a extension to this training series, we invite you to join other OPAL Certified Trainer Teams to participate in facilitated discussion and planning sessions to support implementation of the OPAL in your context. The LMU Team will lead the sessions to engage participants in the following:
- OPAL Key Elements and Review
- OPAL Dissemination Planning and Considerations
- OPAL Implementation, Data Analysis and Reflection
