The Beth Dalton Memorial Literacy Leadership Award

A passion for writing, books, and learning

If you were lucky enough to have known Beth Dalton, your life has been impacted by her passion for writing, books, and learning. Beth was a veritable warrior for literacy! She was a LACOE literacy consultant from 1999 until her passing in May of 2011.

Beth spent eight years in the Azusa Unified School District as a middle school ELA teacher prior to her tenure at LACOE. She served on the statewide Curriculum and Instructional Services Committee for Language Arts, trained thousands of teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators in various aspects of reading and writing, and volunteered at hospitals, reading to sick children and adults. She raised five incredible college-educated children of her own and doted on her grandchildren. We honor her memory by naming this award for her and the lasting legacy of her service to the field.
