Promoting social development and responsibility within a caring community where each student is treated fairly and respectfully is the goal for all teachers as they interact with students on a daily basis. In the long run, greater social and emotional competence can increase the likelihood of high school graduation, readiness for postsecondary education, and positive relationships.
This three-day series has a focus on creating a safe and caring classroom environment, specifically for middle and high school students, through the lens of flexible grouping, learning stations and engagement strategies. Many tools and resources to support the work of the teacher will be provided. There is also a site visit on day 3 to see first-hand how to set up the classroom to implement these ideas.
