The Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Rubrics
were created by the Early Childhood Education Professional Learning Communities (ECEPLC) Project
. The rubrics address three component areas: Developmentally Appropriate Practice, Environment,
. A fourth component area, Assessment
, is currently in development.
The rubrics were developed as a reflective tool to:
• Assist in the identification of indicators of quality in the component areas identified.
• Provide common language and establish a base of understanding in order to support professional dialogues about quality.
• Assist TK teachers and administrators in the self-reflection of current TK practices.
The rubrics are not intended as an evaluative measure, but rather as a tool for TK practitioners and administrators to use in reflective practice as they work toward continuous improvement.
