The Los Angeles County Office of Education has convened a special task force of school superintendents from across the county to build a framework for reopening campuses this summer or fall.

The task force will meet regularly beginning April 29 to establish guidelines to assist the county’s 80 school districts as they discuss the possibilities for reopening with their communities.

“Governor Gavin Newsom has given us a roadmap as we look to reopen schools and address learning gaps and social justice inequities in Los Angeles County,” said County Superintendent of Schools Debra Duardo. “Today, the Governor explained his parameters for potentially starting the new school year in July or August. A summer start would be conditional and require precautions being in place at our schools, including social distancing and safety protocols for our students and staff.”

She added, “As our superintendents' task force begins its work, we look forward to engaging with state and local health and education leadership and our communities to get LA County students back to school."
