Promising Practices: College & Career Readiness

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are anchored in college and career readiness standards. A student who is ready for college and career can qualify for and succeed in entry-level, credit bearing college courses leading to a baccalaureate or certificate or career pathway-oriented training programs without the need for remedial or developmental coursework. Kevin Baird, chairman of the Center for College and Career Readiness, spent an afternoon with Dr. Yvonne Contreras, Assistant Director, Curriculum and Instructional Services, discussing this issue. In the interview, Mr. Baird gives us insights as to how we can better prepare our students for college and or post secondary options. In addition, the webcast also features what Bell Gardens High School in the Montebello Unified School District is doing to prepare students with 3 career pathways.
