To ensure that the Los Angeles County Office of Education employees highly qualified and diverse staff, the office of Personnel Commission uses a variety of tests in our employment and promotion processes. We strive to provide fair and transparent experiences for all eligible candidates according to Merit System principles and industry best-practices.

  • Training and Experience Evaluation

    A T&E is a scored evaluation of job application materials submitted by a candidate.

    A T&E is a scored evaluation of job application materials submitted by a candidate. Scoring is done by qualified raters who have experience in the job field. The materials evaluated may include the application and question responses. The T&E is a method for determining the best-qualified candidates among those who have shown that they meet the minimum requirements.

  • Written (Multiple-Choice) Test

    A written multiple-choice test measures specific knowledge areas that are important to a job (e.g., knowledge of the industry, equipment, safety rules, and regulations, etc.).

    A written multiple-choice test measures specific knowledge areas that are important to a job (e.g., knowledge of the industry, equipment, safety rules, and regulations, etc.). A written test also evaluates how prepared a candidate is for the job responsibilities and duties. A written test consists of multiple-choice questions and answer choices. It can be given in a paper and pencil format or on a computer.

    In a performance test, a candidate is tested on their ability and skill in performing important and frequently performed job duties.

  • Structured Interview

    A structured interview (oral exam or technical oral exam) consists of standardized job-related questions asked of all candidates.

    A structured interview (oral exam or technical oral exam) consists of standardized job-related questions asked of all candidates. Structured interviews are conducted by an interview panel, often consisting of at least two people and is audio recorded. A structured interview is designed to assess the evidence of job-related competencies that are needed to successfully perform the job.
