PESA is a parent education program based on research showing that parents' expectations are the greatest predictor of their children's educational success.
Designed to improve participants' skills as a parent or caregiver, the program teaches techniques to help raise a child's academic performance, improve communication with the family and enhance self-confidence.
PESA was developed by LACOE in 1996 and is the companion to the highly acclaimed Teacher Expectations and Student Achievement program, which has influenced a generation of teachers to have high expectations for all students.
It is a behavioral change program that reinforces the same classroom skills taught to teachers in TESA by creating a link between home and school through consistent nurturing and high expectations and standards for students.
