GLAEF Supports Districts in Building a Culture of Philanthropy

LACOE’s philanthropic arm, the Greater Los Angeles Education Foundation (GLAEF), hosted their Philanthropy Summit for Public Education last week to help new or developing education foundations either start or grow resources for their respective foundations at their district.

Education leaders and district education foundations at all stages were invited to share ideas, ask questions and learn how to maximize philanthropic impact in education. Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Debra Duardo kicked the day off with an informative panel featuring the Pasadena Unified School District team. The panel shared valuable insights on how districts can develop connections within their communities, fundraising strategies and how to sustain resources.

Attendees heard from a wide range of experienced speakers and presenters including a keynote from Charles Best, CEO of Lakeshore Learning Materials and Founder of DonorsChoose. They learned about best practices, how to address challenges and the importance of collaboration. Breakout sessions included expert advice on the power of innovative marketing, donor engagement and outreach as well as risk management and compliance. The day concluded with a panel of funders and their advice on how to cultivate connections, manage funding priorities and the do's and don’ts of engaging with Grantmakers.

Guests walked away confident with the tools they needed to either launch or elevate their foundation plans! For more information on GLA, visit their new website here.
