The Los Angeles County Regional Spelling Bee is a competition held each year in March for spelling champions in grades 4 to 8. Each public school district and charter school organization in the county is invited to send one winner to compete in the regional competition. The competition also invites students who attend a private, parochial, independent charter, or homeschool to participate by qualifying as a top scorer on the Scripps Online Test or by winning a Community Spelling Bee.

The LA County Regional Spelling Bee tests the skills, smarts and stamina of participating students. The top two, grades 4-6, winners of the regional competition are sponsored by LACOE to participate in the California State Elementary Spelling Bee in May. The overall winner is sponsored by LACOE to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, also in May. All students involved receive participation certificates and gift bags, with the top three spellers also receiving trophies.

The top grade 4-6 and top grade 7-8 winners of the regional competition are sponsored by LACOE to participate in the California State Elementary and Middle School Bees in May. The overall two winners are sponsored by LACOE to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, also in May. All competing spellers receive participation certificates and gift bags, with the top three spellers also receiving trophies.
