Spelling Bee

The Los Angeles County Regional Spelling Bee is a competition held each year in March for district-level spelling champions in grades 4 to 8. Each district in the county is invited to send one district winner to compete in the county's regional competition, which tests the skills, smarts and stamina of the participating students.

The top two, grades 4-6, winners of the regional competition are sponsored by LACOE to participate in the California State Elementary Spelling Bee in May. The overall winner is sponsored by LACOE to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, also in May. All students involved receive participation certificates and gift bags, with the top three spellers also receiving trophies.

Spelling Bee to resume in 2024!

Each participating school in your district must register with Scripps National Spelling Bee by December 31, 2023.

The top two grade 4-6 winners of the county regional Bee are sponsored by LACOE to participate in the California State Elementary Spelling Bee in mid May.

The overall winner will be sponsored to attend the Scripps National Spelling Bee in the Washington D.C. area May 26-June 1, 2024.

This registration signifies an intent to participate in the LA County Regional Spelling Bee on March 20th. The actual name and registration of each district's winner is due to LACOE by Friday, March 1, 2024 along with a digital photo.

Once all districts are registered, they will be contacted with the appropriate paperwork to complete for their winner.
