About the LACOE Community Schools Initiative
The LACOE Community Schools Initiative (CSI) utilizes the Community School strategy as a school transformation framework to create an environment that supports teaching and learning so that all students succeed.
The Community Schools Initiative is a strategy, not a program; a strategy that brings together all the elements that result in transformed schools, while programs provide steps and/or resources. As a strategy, the Community Schools model provides the themes and elements that have proven successful while encouraging schools to customize their implementation to meet the needs of their communities.
The LACOE Community Schools Initiative is an unprecedented partnership among LACOE, county agencies, school districts, and community-based organizations to improve the academic, emotional and physical well-being of students.
LACOE’s Community Schools Initiative launched in September 2019 and is underway at 16 high schools across the county that serve as community hubs for students and their families.

Mental Health Services Act
LACOE Community Schools Initiative, in partnership with the LA County Department of Mental Health and participating districts, is providing school social work services to qualifying LACOE Community Schools through a grant funded through California's Mental Health Student Services Act (MHSSA). These services further enhance the LACOE Community Schools vision of creating school communities which empower all students, families, and staff to thrive by promoting mental health and wellbeing through a multi-tiered approach.
