Superintendent Dr. Duardo holds first meeting with new student advisors at The Broad Museum and Hall of Administration.

Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Debra Duardo held her first in-person meeting of the school year with her new cohort of student advisors. The new group has 18 returning and 29 first time student leaders who will serve on her 2023-2024 Student Advisory Council (SAC). This covers over 30 districts and four charter schools. This council was created to bring together voices from all corners of LA County, providing a platform for students to share feedback, experiences and perspectives on various issues affecting our schools and communities.

The meeting started with a team self-guided tour at The Broad where the students got an exclusive experience of artist Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirrored Room. Following the museum and lunch, Dr. Duardo invited the students to hold their first ever official meeting at the Kenneth Hanh Hall of Administration. Each student got to share a little about themselves including what they hope to accomplish through being on the council such as empowering the student voice, representation and holding a leadership position. They discussed future meetings, expectations, data points and more while getting to know Dr. Duardo and students from other districts. Check out some photos from their first meeting here.
