A first-of-its-kind event created by students to amplify youth voice, build leadership skills and connect high schoolers from across Los Angeles County.

More than 300 high school students from across Los Angeles County came together on June 20 for the inaugural 2025 Student Empowerment Summit, a day designed for students, by students.

Organized by the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) and led by members of Superintendent Dr. Debra Duardo’s Student Advisory Council, the event provided a space for student voice, leadership development and meaningful connection. The summit featured student-led workshops, career panels and plenty of opportunities to network with peers from across the County.

Workshop topics ranged from Know Your Educational Rights and Financial Literacy to Preventing Burnout and Leadership Development. Students chose the sessions that resonated most with their passions and needs, creating a personalized day of learning and growth.

The event kicked off with icebreakers to help students connect and closed with music, dancing and a celebration led by Dr. Duardo herself. Prize giveaways capped off a day full of energy, inspiration and student-centered learning.

By centering youth voices and providing tools for advocacy, the Student Empowerment Summit marks a major step forward in how LACOE partners with students to shape the future of education.
