Educators and partners from across L.A. County came together to turn equity into action during LACOE’s first in-person convening centered on advancing dual enrollment opportunities for students.

LACOE's Career Technical Education (CTE) team hosted session two of the L.A. County Toolkit for Equity-Centered Dual Enrollment Partnerships, marking the first in-person convening centered on the newly revised toolkit. The full-day event brought together approximately 70 participants from across Los Angeles County to strengthen collaboration and advance equitable dual enrollment pathways for students.

District leaders and practitioners representing Long Beach Unified School District, Los Angeles Unified School District, Lynwood Unified School District, Glendale Unified School District and several others joined the conversation, alongside partners from Los Padrinos, one of LACOE’s Juvenile Court Schools. Attendees included district administrators, school site leaders, counselors, dual enrollment and CTE coordinators and community college partners, all united by a shared commitment to expanding access to college course credit opportunities for high school students.

The session featured presentations from key regional and statewide partners, including United Way of Greater Los Angeles and Long Beach Community College, which also brought members of its communications team to support storytelling and outreach around dual enrollment efforts. Additional presentations highlighted the Community College Success Resource Toolkit: Earn College Credit in High School, Career Ladders Project, high-quality pathways mapping, and LACOE-led sessions on accountability, data literacy and dual enrollment data analysis.

“This is what it’s all about,” said Dr. Gina Newton, LACOE’s Coordinator III of Dual Enrollment. “This is a perfect example of agency, community college and districts pulling resources together. The strength of the engine is unstoppable!”

Throughout the day, participants engaged in hands-on learning and discussion focused on building and strengthening equity-centered dual enrollment partnerships. The event emphasized practical strategies districts can use to design high-quality pathways that reflect student needs, leverage data effectively, and deepen collaboration with community college partners.

These sessions align with California’s Vision 2030 goal that all high school students graduate with at least 12 units of dual enrollment credit. Supporting that goal, LACOE’s Dual Enrollment and CTE teams continue to provide high-quality technical assistance to districts as they develop and expand rigorous, equitable dual enrollment programs.

By bringing together educators, administrators, and partners from across the County, the session reinforced the collective work underway to ensure students, particularly those historically underserved, have access to meaningful college and career pathways before graduation. This work is supported by the Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation and the Greater Los Angeles Education Foundation.
