County Committee on School District Organization



The County Committee on School District Organization is an independent, 11-member elected body that studies and makes recommendations and decisions on school district organization in Los Angeles County.

The County Committee hosts public hearings and committee meetings that address the following areas of focus:

  • transferring territory between/among school districts;
  • unifying or deunifying a school district;
  • forming new districts;
  • increasing or decreasing size of governing boards;
  • establishing or abolishing trustee areas;
  • redistricting;
  • lapsations.

Actions to consider district reorganization, transfer or change to trustee areas/size of school board may be initiated by a citizen petition; a joint request of two district governing boards; a petition from a city council, county board of supervisors or local agency formation commission.
