School Mental Health Program

The Los Angeles County Office of Education’s School Mental Health Program supports students’ academic, social, and emotional well-being through a comprehensive, multi-tiered system of support (MTSS). Our team provides short-term mental health and wellness services designed to increase student engagement and attendance. In partnership with local universities, we also offer hands-on training for graduate-level social work and school counseling interns, ensuring high-quality services across school sites.

The SMH program strategies are part of an MTSS framework which builds student resiliency and coping skills. In addition, students are supported with the necessary resources to ensure the success of every student. Along with the overall goals of LACOE, specifically, the SMH program set out to support the effort to increase protective factors, student engagement and student attendance while reducing student suspensions.
