The Los Angeles County Board of Education has appointed a new student to serve as a Student Board Member. Joshua, an 11th grader at a LACOE alternative school, was confirmed on March 14.
According to teachers and school staff, Joshua is an accomplished young man that displays tremendous leadership skills and goes above and beyond to help others. He is quick to take initiative and assist as needed.
Joshua is excelling in the Culinary Arts program that he is currently enrolled in. He has become a master baker and is able to prepare delicious pastries to the delight of his peers.
“The reason I want to be in the Los Angeles County Board of Education as a Student Board Member is that I want students to succeed in life, students need to have benefits in their life, and know they have opportunities,” said Joshua.
He is focused on completing high school and plans to continue with his studies at a community college and give back to his community by being a positive influence towards others.
Serving as a Student Board Member will provide Joshua the opportunity to advocate for his peers and to influence decision making. Joshua’s position became vacant in January 2023 because another Student Board Member graduated. Student Board Members are elected by student representatives and serve a one-year term.
