Examining the research and practices that support education leaders to better understand and implement effective approaches on social and emotional learning for multilingual learners.

Los Angeles County is one of the most linguistically and culturally diverse regions in the country, and this diversity is reflected in our public schools. For multilingual learners and their educators, multilingualism and multiculturalism are assets that can add richness and diverse perspectives to their learning environments. At the same time, this student group has been historically marginalized in our education system and needs additional support in the classroom, school and community in order to thrive.

“Community, Culture, Voice: Supporting Social Emotional learning for Multilingual Learners in Los Angeles County” is the latest research report from the Greater LA Education Foundation, the Los Angeles County Office of Education, and Education First that examines the research, systems and practices that support education leaders in LA County to better understand, design and implement effective approaches to social and emotional learning for multilingual learners.

The report offers original research, interviews with classroom educators, school and district administrators, and students, and recommendations that can serve as a starting point to supporting multilingual students in their social and emotional learning to thrive in school and life.
