On June 30, 2025, LACOE officially closed the Education Center East (ECE) building at 9525 Imperial Highway in Downey, concluding 43 years in that location. While the building holds a rich history, the decision to vacate reflects a strategic move toward greater efficiency and cost savings.

Over the past year, teams across divisions worked diligently to plan and execute the transition. The move allows LACOE to reduce overhead and streamline operations.

Staff from Building Services, GAIN, EASE and other divisions ensured a smooth closeout. The ECE building supported a wide range of services, from student records and surplus distribution to career training and counseling. Now, those services continue in new locations.
