LACOE Staff Deliver Holiday Joy Through Annual Shoe Drive

Next week, LACOE will deliver the wrapped shoes to DUSD, where they will be distributed to students just in time for the holidays.
LACOE staff wrapped up this year’s Holiday Shoe Drive by collecting nearly 100 pairs of new shoes for students in foster care or suffering from homelessness at Downey Unified School District (DUSD).
This year’s effort focused on students from 13 elementary schools in DUSD. Each child shared a shoe wish that included their preferred shoe size, style, color and brand, ensuring that they would receive a pair of shoes they truly wanted and felt excited to wear. LACOE staff thoughtfully purchased the new sneakers and included gift receipts for easy exchanges.
To celebrate the effort, staff came together for a Gift-Wrapping Party, which included holiday treats, laughter and the shared joy of preparing these gifts for delivery. They wrapped boxes with bright paper, ribbons and heartfelt wishes, each one a symbol of kindness and community spirit.
Next week, LACOE will deliver the wrapped shoes to DUSD, where they will be distributed to students just in time for the holidays. These gifts provide more than new footwear; they offer comfort, confidence and the reassurance that their community cares.
Thank you to every staff member who participated. Your generosity continues to brighten the season. Together, we helped ensure that every child steps into the holiday season with warmth, comfort and a smile.
