The 2023 Superintendents' Professional Collaborative Conference centered AI integration in education, fostering collaboration and innovation for Los Angeles County's education leaders.
The 2023 Superintendents’ Professional Collaborative Conference was held at Spotify Headquarters in Los Angeles on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, gathering innovative education leaders from across 80 school districts. With a central theme of "AI in Education Demystified," the event aimed to facilitate a collaborative dialogue around shaping the future of education in Los Angeles County.
Dr. Debra Duardo, the Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools, extended a warm welcome, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in navigating the challenges of an ever-evolving educational landscape.
Throughout the conference, speakers like Clay Smith, a Google Solutions Engineer, and Alan Arkatov from Arizona State University shed light on the intersection of education and technology. Discussions led by Sandy Lyons, a former retired Superintendent, and Tracie Noriega, ACSA’s Senior Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, emphasized the potential of AI integration in education.
The luncheon break fostered networking opportunities, encouraging district representatives to exchange innovative ideas and explore possibilities for collaborative ventures.
At the event LACOE and the Greater Los Angeles Education Foundation announced a new AI in Education Task Force to explore the potential of AI, optimize learning and efficiency and address its ethical application. This task force advisory group will be instrumental in guiding district policies, professional development and AI deployment to enhance student achievement.
The afternoon session celebrated the outstanding contributions of Superintendent of the Year, Dr. Gudiel Crosthwaite from Lynwood USD, who was honored for his commitment to leadership in learning, excellence in communication and dedication to community involvement. Distinguished Cabinet Members Kimberlie Linz from El Segundo USD, Rebecca Starkins from Beverly Hills USD, Lilia Fuentes from Pomona USD, Dr. Kevin Hryciw from Arcadia USD, Dora Soto-Delgado from El Rancho USD and Gary Allen from Antelope Valley Union High School District were also recognized as 2023 Cabinet Member of the Year for their outstanding contributions to their respective fields.
Dr. Duardo concluded the event by highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts and pledged to share the insights gathered through an assessment of the needs of Los Angeles County schools. Attendees commemorated the day with a group photo, symbolizing the success of the insightful and collaborative conference.
