Nine schools across Los Angeles County have been recognized statewide for creating powerful pathways that allow students to earn college credit while still in high school.

Nine Los Angeles County schools are being recognized as among the best in California for expanding college access and opportunity, earning the 2026 California Exemplary Dual Enrollment Award announced by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond. The statewide honor highlights 32 schools that are leading innovative efforts to help students begin their college journeys while still in high school, often at no cost.

Among those recognized in Los Angeles County are:

  • Azusa High School (Azusa Unified) — Partner: Citrus College
  • Compton Early College High School (Compton Unified) — Partner: Compton College
  • Compton High School (Compton Unified) — Partner: Compton College
  • Covina High School (Covina-Valley Unified) — Partner: Mt. San Antonio College
  • John Muir High School (Pasadena Unified) — Partner: Pasadena City College
  • Warren (Earl) High School (Downey Unified) — Partner: Cerritos College
  • SOAR High School (Antelope Valley Union High School District) — Partner: Antelope Valley College
  • Dr. Richard A. Vladovic Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy (Los Angeles Unified) — Partner: Los Angeles Harbor College
  • Intellectual Virtues Academy (Los Angeles County Office of Education) — Partner: Long Beach City College

Dual enrollment programs allow students to take college-level courses and earn credit toward both their high school diploma and future college degrees, helping reduce the cost of higher education while building confidence and academic momentum. The schools honored this year demonstrated strong collaboration among K–12 districts, higher education institutions, families and community partners, along with a clear commitment to equity, integrated academic planning and meaningful student support systems.

Awardees were selected through a competitive process that required evidence of successful program outcomes, structured academic and career pathways and expanded access for students who have historically been underrepresented in higher education. These programs are designed not only to accelerate learning but also to ensure students are supported every step of the way.

The nine Los Angeles County schools will hold the California Exemplary Dual Enrollment Award designation for two years, serving as models for other schools across the state. Their recognition reflects a broader shift in education toward creating more seamless connections between high school and college, and toward ensuring that all students have access to opportunities that prepare them for success beyond graduation.

Congratulations to all the 2026 awardees!
