Dr. Duardo Statement on LGBQTIA+ Pride Month Violence

Disturbing violence at school events calls for unity. LACOE supports safe, inclusive environments for students, denounces hate, and upholds a nurturing educational atmosphere.
"I am deeply disturbed by this week’s reports of violence outside of Glendale Unified School District’s Board meeting and last week’s hostile protest at a school in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
LACOE stands in solidarity with Glendale and Los Angeles unified school districts in their efforts to create inclusive environments where all kids feel safe and thrive.
Our LGBTQIA+ students already face higher rates of mental health challenges. As an education community, it is our responsibility to ensure that our students are nurtured in safe and supportive environments. Our schools should be sanctuaries for learning, places where young minds can grow and flourish.
Let us stand together in denouncing these acts of violence and hate, while reinforcing our commitment to fostering a safe, respectful and inclusive atmosphere in all our schools. Our children deserve nothing less."
