Alhambra and Mark Keppel High Schools Earn Top 10 Honors at National Academic Decathlon

Alhambra High School clinched 6th place and Mark Keppel High School secured 9th place nationwide.
Two Los Angeles County high schools secured impressive top 10 rankings and individual excellence honors at the United States Academic Decathlon.
Team Achievements
Alhambra High School, coached by Jose Sanchez, clinched 6th place nationwide with a remarkable team score of 47,301.5 points. Not far behind, Mark Keppel High School, led by Coach Tin Tran, secured 9th place with 47,120.1 points.
Individual Excellence
The competition's standout performer was Alhambra High School's Kevin San, who achieved two significant milestones:
Named the second-highest scoring decathlete in the nation
Awarded the prestigious B. Franklin Reinauer II Economics Award for the highest Economics event score. The award honors Franklin Reinauer, a pivotal figure in the United States Academic Decathlon (USAD). As the founder of the New Jersey Academic Decathlon and a 21-year board member, Reinauer was instrumental in establishing Economics as a key competition event.
Held in Des Moines, Iowa, the prestigious competition brought together elite teams from across the U.S. This year marks a historic milestone as it was the first time in 40 years that Los Angeles County advanced to the National level in the Academic Decathlon.
