Dr. Duardo Statement on Supreme Court's Ruling on L.A. Immigration Raids
Mon Sep 08 15:36:00 PDT 2025
Children cannot learn when they are worried about their parents being taken away or when families are forced apart overnight.
"The Los Angeles County Office of Education is committed to maintaining L.A. County schools as safe, inclusive spaces for every child. No student should face educational barriers based on their family's circumstances. We are committed to our classrooms as places where students feel welcomed and where every child’s right to learn is protected.
Learning cannot happen in an atmosphere of fear. Children cannot learn when they are worried about their parents being taken away or when families are forced apart overnight. Fear of raids will keep parents from engaging with schools, discourage attendance and create trauma that directly undermines academic success and mental health.
We will continue to work with educators, counselors and community partners to provide timely resources for families, protect student wellbeing and reaffirm that classrooms are places of safety and inclusion.
We call on all our local leaders to join us in protecting students and preventing immigration enforcement from undermining any child's right to an education."
