These commitments help protect instructional quality, expand access to early learning and ensure that students are supported academically, socially and physically.
"We are encouraged by Governor Gavin Newsom’s proposed 2026–27 budget, which expands education funding and prioritizes student well-being and opportunity.
The proposal includes an increase in per-pupil spending along with additional funding for community schools, full funding for the continued expansion of Transitional Kindergarten, and sustained investments in universal afterschool programs. We also applaud the continuation of universal school meals, paired with new efforts to reduce ultra-processed foods and support healthier nutrition for students.
These investments acknowledge that schools play a far broader role than instruction alone, serving as vital anchors for learning, health and stability in our communities. For Los Angeles County’s diverse student population, these commitments help protect instructional quality, expand access to early learning and ensure that students are supported academically, socially and physically.
As the budget process moves forward, we look forward to working closely with the Governor and Legislature to ensure these investments are preserved and equitably implemented, particularly for our highest-need students. Continued partnership will be essential to translating these commitments into meaningful outcomes in classrooms and communities across Los Angeles County."
