Latest state assessment and Dashboard results highlight academic gains and continued progress among historically underserved students.
Students across Los Angeles County are making meaningful gains in academic achievement, graduation rates and attendance, with the latest state assessment results showing the county outperforming California in English language arts, mathematics and science.
The 2025–26 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) and California Science Test (CAST) results show continued academic growth across all three subjects:
- English language arts: 51.5% of students tested scored Proficient or Advanced, up 1 percentage point from last year and exceeding the state rate of 49.3%.
- Mathematics: 41.3% of students tested scored Proficient or Advanced, an increase of 2 percentage points and above the state rate of 38.4%.
- Science: 36.4% of students scored Proficient or Advanced, a 4.3 percentage-point improvement from last year and slightly above the statewide rate of 36%.
Particularly encouraging are gains among historically underserved student groups. Black/African American students improved by 4.8 percentage points in science and 2.4 points in mathematics, while Hispanic/Latino students gained 2.1 points in mathematics. Socioeconomically disadvantaged students also demonstrated improvements across all three subjects.
“These results reflect the extraordinary dedication of our teachers, school staff, administrators, families and community partners who work every day to help our students succeed,” said Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Debra Duardo. “I want to thank our entire education community for their commitment to our students. We are especially encouraged by the progress among students who have historically faced greater barriers to success. While there is more work ahead, these gains show what is possible when we work together to create opportunities for every child to thrive.”
The county's graduation rate also climbed to 88.7%, up 2.6 percentage points from 2024–25 and exceeding the statewide rate. Student attendance continues to improve, with chronic absenteeism across Los Angeles County declining by more than 11 percentage points since 2021–22.
The 2026 California School Dashboard shows additional progress. English learner achievement improved for the second consecutive year, with 44% of districts and 53% of reporting charter schools showing gains on the English Learner Progress Indicator. College and career readiness also remains a bright spot, with no L.A. County district receiving the lowest performance rating on the College/Career Indicator.
Together, these results demonstrate the progress Los Angeles County schools are making in helping students achieve their goals. LACOE remains committed to working with school districts and community partners to strengthen instruction, improve student engagement and expand opportunities for all students.
