About Career Technical Education

Los Angeles County Office of Education – Career Technical Education (LACOE-CTE) provides CTE focused technical assistance, curriculum/professional development, and monitoring/documentation/reporting services to districts across Los Angeles county.

Career Technical Education provides courses that integrate technical training and academics to help students develop the knowledge and skills needed for transitioning to career training, post-secondary education and the workforce. This educational philosophy balances academics with real-world problem solving and relevance in 15 high-employing industry sectors.

The CTE program includes the CTE Model Curriculum Standards aligned with Common Core State Standards and Partnership for 21st Century Skills. Standards for Career Ready Practice describe workplace skills that are expected from graduating students.

MAY 19, 20201 - 2:00-4:00 PM - Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access (DEIA) Symposium (formerly the IDEA Symposium)

This first-ever CTE Symposium is an examination of and response to inequities in opportunities directly affecting underserved student populations in CTE programs throughout the county of Los Angeles. The underlying questions of how to better address and reduce gaps will be closely examined.

 During this symposium, participants will:

Explore, define, discuss, then address areas of D.E.I.A. awareness and practice related to:

  1. School Site Policy and Accountability
  2. Implicit and Unconscious Bias
  3. Diversity in Workplace Environments
  4. Impediments for Special Populations

The California Department of Education's Career and College Transition Division (CCTD) has produced this guidance document focusing exclusively on CTE. It is intended to be an additional, but critical resource for local boards of education and administrators as they consider offering and teaching CTE programs. The guidance is particularly important for CTE teachers to make sure that the curriculum offered and taught remains high-quality even as they take into consideration all the necessary measures for a safe classroom environment.
