The proposal reflects stronger-than-expected revenues and includes important investments in public education.

"Governor Gavin Newsom’s 2026 May Revision to the state budget offers many encouraging signs for California’s schools and students. The proposal reflects stronger-than-expected revenues and includes important investments in public education, from increased Prop 98 funding and meaningful cost-of-living adjustments to historic support for special education and additional resources that give local districts flexibility to meet the unique needs of their students and communities.

Continued investments in Community Schools, literacy and math supports, and teacher preparation reinforce the importance of helping every student succeed while supporting the educators who make that possible every day. Additional details regarding implementation, funding allocations and program changes are expected to be released through budget trailer bill language in the coming weeks.

Over the next several weeks, the Legislature will work to adopt their versions of the state budget, after which legislative leadership and the Governor will negotiate a final compromise budget for approval by the Legislature prior to the June 15 constitutional deadline.

We will continue to work closely with lawmakers and education partners to ensure the final budget fully delivers on California’s commitment to students, schools and families."
