The Charter Schools Office is responsible for accepting charter petitions and appeals on behalf of the Los Angeles County Board of Education and facilitating the petition review and appeal process.

This page provides petitioners with information regarding the submission of petitions and appeals to the Los Angeles County Board of Education.

The links provide an overview of the review process, forms needed for the submission package, information on the manner in which submission is made and timelines governing submission and consideration by the County Board. In addition to the charter petition, the submission package must include required forms and supporting documents.

REQUIREMENTS for charter petitions as a result of Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF): LCFF added requirements to the Charter School Act effective July 1, 2013. See linked documents for an overview of these requirements.

Monitoring and Oversight Memorandum of Understanding: By County Board policy, all charter schools authorized by the County Board must enter into a Monitoring and Oversight Memorandum of Understanding.

Board Policies and Administrative Regulations: The County Board and the Los Angeles County Office of Education have established policies and regulations regarding charter schools.
